Welcome all! First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Beard_Man, and I am a Hungarian veteran HLL player. In just 2 years I played for 40

The Officer or better known as Squad Leader (SL) is the head of a maximum 6 man infantry unit. His main job is basically to provide spawn points for the team (Garrison) and his unit (Outpost), lead those 5 guys under his command, give informations about a given situation to the other officers, keep the Commander updated and work with him. Let's take these things one by one.

What does an Officer do for his unit?

Understanding the role

A good Officer understands, that his role is NOT about killing as many enemies as he can. Sure thing, killing and supporting his guys is a must, but primarily his main goal is to always provide an Outpost for his unit, give them instructions, orders, informations and goals to achieve. An experienced Officer is a big help on the battlefield, as he knows what to do next and does not just running around and shooting at people.
Confidence

Most important thing to do when you play Squad Leader: BE CONFIDENT, FIRM, MANLY, DIRECT.

People will listen to you and will follow you if they see that you know what you are doing!
Communication and radio usage

Hell Let Loose is all about communication, the information-chain between Commander-Officer-Unit shall always be going!

But how to communicate to your squad effectively?

Don't use the Unit radio channel too much, keep the communication S&S, which means Short and Sweet. Say the information as short as you can, without any useless additional information. For example: "Panther on my mark, accurate, stationary."

Map usage

As an Officer, you must check your map more often than the basic infantry, because this way you can see better what is going on, and lead your guys much more effectively.
Markers
There are different types of markers, not everyone is visible to your unit; same goes for some that are only visible for your unit but the other Officers can not see it. Learn these markers, what they mean and who can see them!
The Move marker

Always have a move marker on the map for your unit, so they know what objective is the next one to go to or capture.
The Support

Always have a SUPPORT player in your squad! Building garrisons is the key to win games, and for that you need 50 supplies, so choose someone from the squad who will play as support.
Movement

You should look after solutions which are not so easily predictable by the enemy, flank, break through, build Garrison in the enemy's territory, so just think about alternative ways which can make a huge difference in the game! Ask your guys to follow you, and achieve huge goals with them!

Work together, win together! Do not lose your head! Remain calm even the game is not going well, don't rage; because your unit will look up on you, so you better show confidence!

What does an Officer do for the team?

GOOD OFFICERS BUILD GARRISONS!

This is the main reason why you lose games in Hell Let Loose: Your team does not have enough garrisons, and the enemy can easily run you over. Officers in general do not build garrisons, run past supplies and not thinking as a SL should be thinking.

Why is that?

Well, mainly because they don't understand the importance of the garrisons. Additionally, noone picked support in their squad, and they all wait for the Commander's supply drop. Let me tell you something: Commander's supply drop ability is not really meant to be used to build garrisons in captured sectors!
Have active supply in emergency

As I mentioned previously, always have a support in your unit to build garries whenever it is needed. If you think about it, on average one team has 6-8 infantry units, so this means if all of these squads would have support there would be no problem building garrisons. So you better be strict and confident, tell your squad you need 50 supplies immediately, drop it! You will see, if you keep them entertained and active they will be more than happy to do your orders!
Communication

Same communication rules are in effect when we speak about the Leadership radio channel. Don't talk too much, don't make an argument which PC parts are the best right now or what did you eat for breakfast. It is really annoying! If you found yourself meanwhile reading this, please change as I requested!

Garrison building 24/7

Help out the Commander as much as your time allows you, build garrisons back, clear certain areas, ask for things if needed, etc. A few good Officers can make life much easier for the Commander, as he don't have to do all the things by himself.

Mistakes most Officers do

In this section you will see some mistakes that most of the Officers do out there. I will give you solutions so you will not make these!
Lose Outpost when a sector is lost

If the enemy team captures a sector where your OP is placed, you will automatically lose that outpost. Most of the time when one team captures the middle point at the start of the game the other team lose their position and momentum because the SLs forget about the OPs, they lose the capture, OP is gone, at this time the officer is dead, so the whole unit have to run from the garrison (if there is any).

What is the solution?

As I mentioned earlier, you are basically just an outpost provider, so you have to be alive when will the point be lost, and place an outpost immediately after that! (Quick tip: Outpost placement has a 2 minute cooldown, but if you drop an OP and dismantle it by yourself the cooldown disappears.)
Not communicating

I shouldn't define why this is a serious problem in Hell Let Loose because by now you already know. So just keep talking into that microphone of yours, and let others hear your beautiful voice!
Does not know what to do

You always have to have a plan; even if the game's pace is slow, the actions that you make shall be fast! You need to be one step ahead of the enemy team. What do I mean by that?

- Prepare for a potential enemy airhead, have a garrison next to the place where they might drop it!

- Build a garrison in the enemy territory by swapping players to support in your unit! 100 supplies needed to build a garrison in enemy territory, so 2 guys shall drop their crates to be able to do it! One drops 50 supplies, redeploys, leave the support role, another one takes it, spawns, also drops 50, boom! You have the required amount of supplies to build a red zone garrison! Commander doesnt have to drop it on you, the enemy dont know your position and what you are doing. WIN-WIN!

- Build more backup garrisons, clear the rear areas! If you see that you don't have squads defending around/behind the strongpoint, go there and hold position or wipe out enemies with your squad!
You are not defending the strong point, you are defending the whole sector so they could not come any closer to it!

- Frontline is crucial to hold (the area between the 2 playable points), if no one is there the enemy will just directly walk into your current point. Take this position, because if you leave it open you will lose the point sooner or later. It is a true meat-grinder, but someone has to do it for the team.

The End

Thank you guys for reading! I really hope that some of these tips will help you out, and you will play more and more Officer, because trust me, it is a fun and rewarding role to play!

See you guys on the battlefield! Peace!
