Docomo seems to provide web-mail service for Docomo i-mode, but this seems to require advance application, and also as I read it it sounds like you obtain an additional webmail-only e-mail address in addition to the mobile address.

If he has the international roaming service, he's got to be prepared to pay the expensive fee - I have one on my Softbank mobile, and before I travel overseas I cancel all e-mail newsletters from shops, tell my friends that I'll be overseas, so that I don't end up receiving too many non-urgent e-mails for which I have to pay even to receive...
